Frisco’s Wade Park development has ramped up the amount of planned retail space.
The $1.6 billion, 180-acre project on the Dallas North Tollway will now contain almost as much retail and restaurant space as a shopping mall, developer Stan Thomas said Thursday.
“We are up to 950,000 square feet of retail that’s part of the development,” Thomas told members of the International Council of Shopping Centers meeting in downtown Dallas.
Wade Park was originally planned to have about 600,000 square feet of retail space anchored by a Whole Foods Market grocery store.
But developer Georgia-base Thomas Land and Development has added to the size of the project.
Thomas said about 6 million square feet of office space is now included in Wade Park - almost twice as much as was originally planned.
Along with Whole Foods, Thomas has disclosed names of several more tenants for Wade Park, including retailers Arhaus, MiniLuxe, the Lash Lounge iPic Theaters and Pinstripes. Also in the project will be restaurants Thirteen Pies, Steel City Pops and The Rustic.
A 175-room Hotel Zaza is planned.
And Langham Hotels & Resorts plans to build a 250-room hotel.
More Wade Park hotels are in the works.
"Right now we are doing four hotels in the project, "Thomas said."Hotels have become an anchor. People will stay there and come and eat and shop."
The first phase of the development is supposed to open next year at the tollway and Lebanon road.
Thomas was one of the most popular speakers at today's ICSC meeting.
The annual event drew almost 4,000 shopping center and retail industry professionals - 10 percent more than were at the conference in 2014.
