As part of a new Frisco Convention & Visitors Bureau branding campaign, on Tuesday it declared Frisco “Sports City U.S.A.” Show Full Story

“We are the only city in the U.S. to be home to one team for each of the five major sports,” CVB Executive Director Marla Roe said. “And the list is so much more comprehensive than that with world-class venues and world-class events.”

Roe said that in 2016, Frisco held almost 40 sporting events that brought more than $14 million into the community.

There are five professional sports teams headquartered in Frisco today: the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, FC Dallas, Frisco RoughRiders and Texas Legends.

The Sports City U.S.A. web page includes information on each of the teams, facilities, major sporting events, sports medicine and more.

“I believed years ago that Frisco was the No. 1 innovative sports city in the world,” former Frisco Mayor Maher Maso said. “I love this branding provided by the CVB, they have it right, and as they say in Texas, it’s not bragging if it’s true.”

Maso said recognizing Frisco as Sports City U.S.A. is not only beneficial for the city but the whole region.

“When you say you’re the best in the U.S. or the world, it drives tourism to North Texas,” Maso said.

The Frisco CVB also changed the organization’s name to “Visit Frisco.”

“Not only is Visit Frisco a call to action, but an invitation to visitors, meeting planners and sports groups,” said Roe in a statement. “Rebranding as Visit Frisco is a simpler way of engaging with our visitors and provides a clear message to the local community that we are the official Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) for the city.”
