Plano's $3 billion Legacy West will have its own park

Plano's $3 billion Legacy West development has Toyota, Liberty Mutual Insurance and JPMorgan Chase.

And now the 250-acre mixed-use development on the Dallas North Tollway will have its own park.

The city has purchased more than seven acres on the west side of Communications Parkway north of Legacy Drive where it will build a small park. Show Full Story

The planned green space is between the new Legacy West Urban Village and J.C.Penny's long-time headquarters.

Plano paid Legacy West developer Karahan Cos. almost $10 million for the property.

"Initially it's just going to be a green space but long term we expect to make improvements to it," said Robin Reeves director of Plano's park department.

"We're glad we were able to get something there.

"There are going to be a lot of people living there."

Reeves said the city hopes to fund improvements to the park with a future bond program.

Thousands of new residents will live in the apartments, condominiums and houses in Legacy West. And more than 20,000 people will work in the huge development.

Karahan Cos. CEO Fehmi Karahan said he's glad to see the land used for open space.

"It's a nice property with lots of large trees," he said.
