PGA of America CEO Pete Bevacqua acknowledges organization's potential move to Frisco: 'It&#

This morning at Bellerive Country Club, site of the 100th PGA Championship that begins Thursday, outgoing PGA of America CEO Pete Bevacqua addressed his organization's rumored move to Frisco.

Bevacqua and PGA Chief of Championships Kerry Haigh were taking part in a general news conference to discuss the setup of Bellerive, which is near St. Louis, the significance of the PGA Championship's centennial and the general state of the PGA of America.

The final question regarded the PGA's potential move to Frisco, which originally was reported by Golf.com in March and followed up by several media outlets, including The Dallas Morning News.

"Those conversations are happening literally as we sit up here and address all of you," Bevacqua said today. "A decision has not been made. Certainly many of you have probably read of the potential of the PGA of America moving to Frisco. That's still certainly a possibility, but it's also a possibility that we'll stay in southern Florida or even look at opportunities around the rest of the country. Show Full Story

"And really, this is something that started two years ago, where we all came to the conclusion that those current buildings, while in a wonderful part of the country, just were not getting it done for us. Just were not designed in a way that's what's in mind with kind of a modern headquarters setting.

"And as we went out and started to talk to people about potential opportunities, we had a lot of interesting offers came our way. And certainly the opportunity in Frisco stood out from the others. But any move of a headquarters, whether you go across the street or halfway across the country is complicated. It's difficult on everybody. It's difficult on the staff, this period of limbo where we don't know exactly where we'll be. 'Are we going to stay put? Are we going to move to Frisco? Could we move somewhere else?'

"So I know the goal is to resolve that and come to a conclusion as soon as possible, but we're just not there yet, unfortunately. Because we would like to have made that decision."

One significant step paving the PGA's move to Frisco may have been taken Tuesday, with The News reporting that Hunt Realty Investments has purchased Frisco's 2,544-acre Headquarters Ranch from the estate of Bert Fields Jr. The sprawling ranch stretches from Preston Road west past the Dallas North Tollway and all the way north to U.S. Highway 380 and includes the large parcel of land that has been earmarked for a potential new PGA of America headquarters, as well as two 18-hole championship courses, a 9-hole course and practice facility, all of which would be completely or largely controlled by the PGA.

Also of note is the fact that Bevacqua soon will be leaving the PGA of America to become the president of NBC Sports Group. A potential successor could be Darrell Crall, the current PGA of America chief operating officer who was the longtime executive director of the
